Emma Wilson joined Irvine Housing Association in April 2012 through the Working Rite initiative. Emma was 19 and unsure of what she wanted to do. Having gained an insight into housing through her initial training Emma went on to complete the North Ayrshire Housing Training Programme and spent time in our admin and customer involvement teams. By the end of the year, Emma had secured her first permanent job as an executive services assistant with the Association. In this role Emma completed her SVQ 2 & 3 in Business and Administration.
A further opportunity arose for Emma to gain experience in another side of the business when she was successfully seconded to the post of energy efficiency assistant, completing Government funding applications for external wall insulation works.
In July 2017 Emma was successful in her application for asset administrator, responsible for administrative tasks related to gas servicing, planned and capital programmes and reactive repairs. She assists the Repairs & Maintenance Manager, Asset & Investment Manager and the Health & Safety & Compliance Manager as well as dealing with customer enquiries.
Emma said “I never thought that when I came to the Association as a Working Rite trainee, I’d still be here six years later. Everyone has been so supportive and encouraged me to go for it when opportunities have arisen. Getting the asset administrator role was a big step for me and has meant I am now in a position where I have been able to move out of home and buy my own car. I am looking forward to the next six years with IHA!”
