West Doura Court Sheltered Housing Complex Silver Anniversary Celebration

Irvine Housing Association marked the Silver Anniversary of West Doura Court Sheltered Housing Complex in Kilwinning with a celebratory event at Whitehirst Park Community Centre on the evening of 20 June 2008.  Paul Hillard, Chief Executive of the Association, presented residents with a bench to celebrate the 25 year anniversary of the complex.  Margaret Stewart, Warden at West Doura Court, assisted him in unveiling the bench.  Residents and guests enjoyed entertainment and a buffet.

Rev. Sandy McCallum of Mansfield Trinity Church, Councillor Margaret McDougall and Miss Magee and Mrs Ritchie from Whitehirst Primary School attended the event.  Also in attendance were Community Wardens Colin Alcroft and Campbell Currie, friends of the complex and Association staff.

West Doura Court was part of a former farmstead that was converted in 1983 to form a shop and community centre, with housing for the elderly attached. Irvine Housing Association took over the ownership of West Doura Court in November 1996. Margaret Stewart, the current warden, has worked at West Doura Court for almost 20 years. Margaret has organised various activities for the tenants such as bus runs and pantomime trips. The residents’ lounge has been a hive of activity over the years with coffee mornings, hairdressing sessions and keep fit classes.

Paul Hillard said: “Over the past 25 years West Doura Court has grown to be a vibrant community thanks to the residents and the number of activities undertaken in the complex.  I am delighted to be celebrating this special anniversary with the residents, their families and friends of the complex.  I would like to thank Margaret for her commitment to her job. On many occasions, Margaret has gone above and beyond the duties expected of her as warden. ”

Margaret Stewart said: “On behalf of myself and the tenants, I would like to thank Irvine Housing Association for this evening and their continued support over the years.”
