IRVINE HOUSING ASSOCIATION ANNOUNCES WINNERS

OF THE HARBOURSIDE IN BLOOM AND IRVINE & KILWINNING IN BLOOM GARDEN COMPETITIONS 2011

Gardeners who have helped to make Irvine bloom this summer were recognised by Irvine Housing Association in their annual In Bloom Garden Competition. The Association was delighted with the efforts made by tenants. As usual the Harbourside was full of bright, beautiful blooms and in outlying areas entrants efforts really brightened up the streets.

The competition was judged at the beginning of August by Technical Officer (Estates), John Brennan.  Once again John was impressed with the standard of entries, Front gardens make such a difference to the overall look of an area. Well-kept gardens show a sense of pride in the area and make it feel so much more welcoming. We encourage our tenants to take part, and while judging this year saw many gardens worthy of a prize that hadn’t been entered. Get your entry form in next year! Congratulations to this year’s winners!”

This year’s Harbourside in Bloom First Prize went to Mr & Mrs Martin. John was impressed with their colourful display and wooden planters handcrafted by ex-shipbuilder Mr Martin. They had clearly put a lot of work into their garden.  Mrs Martin said, “We are over the moon to have won the competition! Throughout the summer we’ve had lots of people stopping to comment on the garden which makes it all worthwhile.”
Michael Fullerton and Anne-Marie Carson received Second Prize and Mr Campbell was awarded Third Prize.

This year’s green-fingered garden winner for Irvine & Kilwinning was Carol Grayston of Broomlands. Carol had created a relaxing, colourful Thai-themed garden including a water feature, handmade lantern and a Buddha.  Mr & Mrs Maxwell from Lawthorn received Second Prize and Mrs Coulter of Broomlands was awarded Third Prize.

The Association would like to take this opportunity to congratulate everyone who entered.
