Springhill Terrace, Springside, IrvineFollowing the success of the Sanderson Avenue redevelopment, the Association was invited by North Ayrshire Council to participate in the regeneration of Springhill Terrace. Workshops were organised in the Springside Community Centre to enable the local community to contribute to the redevelopment plans for Springhill Terrace. The then Councilor, Jane Gorman, attended these workshops along with officials and representatives from Irvine Housing Association, North Ayrshire Council, Assist Architects and Lovell Partnerships. Local residents were given the opportunity at the workshops to put forward their views and ideas for this important redevelopment at the heart of their community. Jane Gorman, Brig Tony Rickets, the Association’s then Chairman and the Association’s Director of Finance, Iain Smith, launched the demolition phase of the project in June 2005. This was well attended by local residents. Brig Rickets; Brian Donohoe MP; Irene Oldfather MSP and Jane Gorman, launched the construction phase of the project in 2006 along with members of the local community. The project was completed in May 2007. The total value of this exciting redevelopment project was approximately £4 million and resulted in a total of 40 new build quality homes being constructed. 26 of the properties built are rented accommodation with the other 14 sold through Communities Scotland’s Homestake, shared equity scheme, resulting in this development providing Ayrshire with its first Homestake properties. The houses were also designed in accordance with the Police Architectural Liaison Officer, resulting in Secure by Design Certification for the development. The Minister for Communities and Sports, Stewart Maxwell, officially opened the development in September 2007. He was joined by Brian Donohoe MP; Irene Oldfather MSP; North Ayrshire Council's Provost, Robert Rae; the Association's Chairman, Tommy Farrell and members of the local community for the ribbon cutting ceremony. Irvine Housing Association and Lovell Partnerships carried out several activities with the local primary school, including a site visit during the construction process, a health and safety talk explaining the dangers associated with playing on building sites and a presentation on how new homes are constructed.
