Raft Race Roadshow

As part of the Association’s commitment to working with the local community, the Association was delighted to be the main sponsor of the Dumfries Lions Club Raft Race for the sixth year running.  The race took place on Sunday 25 May 2008 on the River Nith from Nunholm to the Caul over a distance of approximately two miles.  All monies raised will be donated to local charities.

This was the 20th anniversary of the annual race and to mark this special occasion the sponsorship money provided by the Association was used to hold a West Fm Road Show live from the Whitesands, hosted by DJ Tommy Jardine.  Record numbers of spectators flocked to the riverside to watch the rafts brave the Caul and join in the road show festivities. The road show kicked off with an energetic performance by local Dumfries band Glamd – a true tribute to the Seventies Glam era.  Other entertainment included Cadona’s funfair and majorettes.

The Association’s Chief Executive, Paul Hillard, who presented prizes to the winning teams said “Well done to everyone who took part in the race.   The Dumfries Lions Club have once again worked very hard to give us all another great day out.  We are delighted to have sponsored the event on this special anniversary.  The live entertainment has been fantastic and the road show has put a special mark on what is always a fun-filled day.”
