Official Opening of Kilwinning Community Sports Club
Family Golf Centre

Kilwinning Community Sports Club is pleased to announce the official opening of its new Family Golf Centre. Paul Hillard, Chief Executive of Irvine Housing Association, officially opened the centre by cutting a ribbon on 11 June 2008.  He was assisted by pupils from St. Winnings Primary School and St. Lukes Primary School.

The event was also attended by Councillor Margaret McDougall, Councillor Ryan Oldfather, Councillor Andrew Chamberlain, representatives from North Ayrshire Council’s Active Schools Programme, Club Golf representatives, Community Police Officer PC Thomson and Community Wardens.

The centre was initially in operation throughout the day and was proving to be a huge success within the community.   Irvine Housing Association was successful in obtaining wider role funding to allow the facility to become fully operational at night.  This included flood lighting, a portakabin and a golf ball dispensing machine.

Paul Hillard said: Irvine Housing Association is committed to working with the local community and continue to provide support for Kilwinning Community Sports Club, which has been a very successful initiative and is well used by the local community.  The Association and Kilwinning Community Sports Club are working together to create the opportunity for tenants and residents throughout Kilwinning to obtain maximum benefit from the extensive facilities available at the sports club. Our aim is to encourage active participation in sporting activities, in order to improve health, social and life skills and community involvement and participation.”

Jim McCubbin, Chairman of Kilwinning Community Sorts Club said: We would like to thank Irvine Housing Association for their continued support and particularly for their contribution to the newly opened Family Golf Centre.
